History - Today
Friends of Hospice was founded in 1994 to provide financial assistance and volunteer services to Agape House, Bermuda’s first and only in-patient hospice.
Over the years, the organization has continued to expand its efforts to meet the non-medical needs of each hospice patient, their family and friends and aims to encourage and enable all patients to live their lives to their full potential despite their illnesses.
Today, Friends of Hospice is the registered charity (#391) that supports Agape House and hospice care in Bermuda through the following programmes and services that help enhance the quality of life for patients and their families:
- Full time chef and private kitchen
- Full time Bereavement Counselor and Art Therapist
- Complementary Therapist
- Technology Programme
- Volunteer Companion Training Programme
The organization also funds educational development for hospice staff, assists with the maintenance and upkeep of the building, and works alongside the Agape House staff to meet the practical and emotional needs of the patients and their family and friends in any way that it can.
Friends of Hospice is committed to the belief that we all have the right to pass our days with dignity, peace, personalized care, and comfort.
