Complementary therapies are treatments that may be used alongside, or in addition to, conventional medical care, like therapeutic massage. At Agape House, Friends of Hospice funds a complementary therapy programme for patients, caregivers and bereaved clients. These therapies aim to support a patient’s well-being, assist in symptom control, and aid in relaxation.
Our main aim is to provide people who request our service with information and treatment choices in a relaxed and safe environment where they can feel cared for and supported. There are no charges for these services.
Currently, the complementary services that we offer include:
Reflexology & Foot Massage is based on ancient principles and uses massage in all areas of the feet to balance the body's energies, reducing stress and inducing relaxation.
Aromatherapy is a gentle massage using natural essential oils which are selected individually. The oils can enhance body, mind and spirit and can help to relieve stress and insomnia.
Reiki involves the transfer of natural energy through one person to another as the therapist places their hands gently over the body. It is harmless, does not require faith or belief and there is no need to undress to receive the therapy.
Indian Head Massage is applied to the head, neck, shoulders, face and scalp. It can be very successful in soothing stress and often gives a psychological uplift.
It isn't for everyone however, and consultation with the therapist is advised.
